TIDES
"I could canvas this forever
Or just retract the line
I would tell you if I knew
What was on my mind
I’m out here fighting tides
I think I’m winning half the time
My mood becomes tuned to
These invisible rhymes
I can’t live behind these tremors
But I can’t face what’s on my mind
People keep asking what I want
Can I have some time”

About the lyrics:
“Tides” is about anxiety, and how a lot of progress, especially when relating to mental health, isn’t linear.
You can be doing ok, seemingly getting better every day, then have a string of rough days in a row without any warning or apparent reason.
And that can be really frustrating. I wrote this during one of those bad cycles, when I couldn’t bring myself to do anything and was internally lamenting about how all the growth I thought I achieved had vanished.
But that’s the nature of progress, and it’s important to remind yourself that.
It’s easy to forget and I know personally I let that overwhelm me when it does happen (which is what the second half of the song is about).
There’s this inherent urgency that I think a lot of people have when it comes to working through their mental health, and when it doesn’t feel like you’re keeping up with that urgency, it can put so much more pressure on you.
