A 75 POUND SECOND ACT
I was 15 I was diagnosed with stage 2B ovarian cancer after getting both ovaries taken out the lack of hormones made my eating habits go crazy and I ate everything insight. Fast forward 6 years, I finally had enough of being the “bigger girl” and so I made a commitment to myself to get healthier.
Shortly after my lifestyle change I received word from Heather Hall about the National Women’s Survivor Convention (now SURVIVORville) where she told me about the 5K that was to be held on the Saturday of the convention. About 8 weeks before I left for Nashville I began the C25K app which takes you from “the couch” to running a 5K. The Celebrate Survivor 5K was the very first 5K and race that I ran in, when I took part in this race I had lost about 39 pounds.
After leaving Nashville, I continued to run and eat healthy I ran in a couple more 5K’s along with a 10K. In 2015, I am training to run in a half marathon that will take place in September. Currently, I have lost a little over 75 pounds and I am very thankful for my opportunity to take place in the Celebrate Survivor 5K that definitely marked the start of my running lifestyle.
